Fat Grafting San Diego
Facial fat grafting also known as autologous fat transfer is a natural way to rejuvenate the aging face, improve scarring from acne, injuries or past surgeries. Fat grafting uses your body’s own adipose tissue. There is no risk of allergic reaction and the results are long lasting. During facial fat grafting a small amount of fat is removed from the abdomen, thigh or hip areas. The fat cells are then artistically placed throughout the face creating a fuller and more youthful look
Autologous Fat Transfer In Carlsbad & San Diego
As our faces age we lose facial volume due to fat atrophy or shrinkage, and facial bone loss or resorption. Fat atrophy is most noticeable in the cheeks, under the eyes, the midface, lips, chin, and around the temples. Dermal fillers can provide temporary volume to add fullness to the face. The popular alternative to facial fillers is autologous fat transfer. Unlike fillers that require re-injection every 9-12 months, fat can provide permanent results.Autologous Fat Transfer can fill in sunken cheeks or lines between the nose and mouth, correct skin depressions from scars, minimize forehead wrinkles, enhance the lips and give the skin a healthy, more youthful glow.

The goal of your consultation with Dr. Park is to express your desired outcome and goals with surgery, gather information, and feel confident and assured when you schedule your surgery with us. During your initial appointment Dr. Park will examine you face shape, skin quality, facial fat volume, and underlying bone structure to determine the best options to optimize the results of your fat grafting surgery. After determining that surgery would be right for you, you can decide how and when to schedule surgery.
Preparing For Your Surgery
Before your surgery, Dr. Park and his nurses will see you at your preoperative appointment. During this appointment you will get another opportunity to ask any additional questions you may have with regard to surgery and review all the details of surgery again.
You will be provided with prescriptions for medications required after surgery. You will also be provided with instructions to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on drinking, eating, smoking, and avoiding certain medications or supplements.
While preparing for surgery, make sure to make arrangements to have a family member or friend drive you home after surgery. You may also want to have someone help you for a couple of days while you recover.
Both the donor and recipient sites are numbed with local anesthesia. Sedation can be used as well. If you elect to use sedation, be sure to arrange for a ride home after your treatment.
After cleansing and treatment with local anesthesia, fat is withdrawn from a donor site such as the hips, thighs, abdomen, or back. The fat is then prepared and injected into the recipient site.
Sometimes an adhesive bandage is applied over the injection site. Slight overfilling may be necessary in anticipation of fat absorption that can occur. When fat is used for facial augmentation, planned over-correction may cause the face to appear a bit full. This puffiness and swelling will resolve in a matter of a couple of weeks.
After Fat Grafting
While some treatments require a brief recovery period, many patients resume normal activity right away. Expect some swelling, bruising or redness in both the donor and recipient sites. The severity of these symptoms depends upon the size and location of the treated area.
It’s best to stay out of the sun until redness and bruising subsides. When instructed by Dr. Park, you may use makeup with sunblock protection to help conceal any potential bruises.
Unlike dermal fillers, fat injections last forever. The majority of patients find that at least half of the injected fullness remains stable after 3-6 months. In some cases, additional fat transfers are required to optimize your results.
