With FDA approval and clinically proven results, Latisse empowers you to enhance your natural beauty with a non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
What is Latisse Treatment?
Latisse is the first and only treatment approved by the FDA to enhance your eyelashes, measured by increased length, thickness, and darkness of your lashes. Available by prescription, Latisse is designed to treat those with inadequate or not enough lashes (hypotrichosis). It offers a fantastic solution for patients wishing to enhance their natural eyelashes dramatically.
How Latisse Treatment Works?
Latisse uses bimatoprost, a compound that targets the natural growth cycle of eyelash hair, which consists of three key phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting).
Here’s how bimatoprost in Latisse® influences these phases:
- Extending the Anagen Phase: The anagen phase is when the eyelash grows actively. Bimatoprost primarily works by lengthening this phase–the eyelashes continue growing longer than they would under normal conditions. This extension prevents the lashes from entering the next phase too soon, which leads to longer lashes.
- Increasing the Number of Hairs: In addition to extending the growth phase, bimatoprost also increases the number of hairs that sprout during the growth phase. This results from bimatoprost’s ability to stimulate the dormant hair follicles to activate and produce hair. During this phase, more lashes emerge, giving a fuller appearance.
Patients typically notice initial improvements within eight weeks of daily application, as the lashes gradually become longer and fuller. By the 16-week mark, the full effects of Latisse are usually visible. To maintain the effects, we recommend continued application.
Possible Side Effects of Latisse® Treatment
While Latisse is a safe and effective treatment for most people, some users may experience side effects. The most common of these include eye redness, itchy eyes, and skin darkening around the application site. Less common effects can include dryness or redness of the eyes and eyelid skin darkening. Most side effects are mild and resolve on their own. However, we recommend discussing potential side effects with Dr. Gregory Park during your consultation.
Ideal Candidates for Latisse Treatment
Ideal candidates for Latisse are individuals who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their natural eyelashes and are looking for a non-surgical solution to enhance eyelash length and density. It is particularly useful for those who have naturally sparse or thin lashes, or for individuals experiencing eyelash loss due to age or medical conditions. Patients with certain eye problems or severe allergies may need to discuss their suitability for Latisse® with Dr. Park.
