Breast implant sizes affect the width, projection, and overall balance of an augmentation result. A higher volume does not automatically make an implant more suitable. Its dimensions must work with the patient’s existing breast tissue and chest structure.

Breast implants are measured by volume in cubic centimeters, or cc. However, volume is only one part of the sizing process.
Three specifications determine how an implant occupies the breast:
Two implants can contain the same number of cubic centimeters but have different dimensions. A wider implant may distribute fullness across more of the chest. An implant with a narrower base and higher profile may direct more of that fullness forward.
Breast implant sizes therefore need to be considered together with width and projection.
A proportionate implant fits within the natural breast footprint while creating the requested increase in volume. This can produce a smoother transition between the breast and chest instead of allowing the implant to extend too far to the sides.
Appropriate sizing also accounts for how much tissue will cover and support the implant. The aim is to create the preferred degree of fullness without placing unnecessary pressure on the skin and soft tissue. This balance may be particularly important for patients who want a noticeable change but also value comfort during exercise and daily activities.
